Air emissions - oxides of nitrogen (NOx)
AGL Loy Yang oxides of nitrogen emissions decreased 13% compared to FY21. The decrease in emissions aligns with the decrease in coal combustion (down 8%) and corresponding total electricity generation (down 8%) in the reporting period.
Bayswater Power Station oxides of nitrogen emissions increased 7% compared to FY21. The increase in emissions aligns with the increase in coal combustion (up 3%) and the increase in total electricity generated (up 4%).
AGL Torrens oxides of nitrogen emissions decreased 28% compared to FY21. Emissions are calculated from the combustion of pipeline natural gas, light fuel oil, and diesel at AGL Torrens and Barker Inlet Power Station. The decrease in emissions aligns with the decrease in pipeline natural gas combustion at AGL Torrens (down 34%) and at Barker Inlet Power Station (down 33%).

FY22 data was updated in November 2022. A subset of the FY22 data (comprising emissions associated with the combustion of black coal and diesel at the Bayswater and Liddell power stations, black and brown coal as well as natural gas at AGL Loy Yang, and natural gas and fuel oil at AGL Torrens, and estimates of fugitive emissions at these sites) was reported with the initial release of the FY22 Annual Report and ESG Data Centre on 19 August 2022.
For the purposes of this data set, AGL Torrens comprises the Torrens Island Power Station and the Barker Inlet Power Station which commenced operation in December 2019.
All figures have been rounded to the nearest kilogram.
Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) was introduced to Units 2, 3 and 4 at Bayswater Power Station in November 2017.
The National Assets were sold in FY19.
Emissions from Kwinana Swift Power Station were included from FY20.
